Pearl Jewelry ( A New Fashion ) : From Unreachable Treasure to

Nowadays with the introduction of pearl cultivation, people don't depend on hunting natural pearls any more, but raise our own pearls! The pearls cultivated by humans are called cultured pearls. During the development of this technology, people have concluded that water quality and temperature, season, oyster and seeding are the important factors to produce high quality pearls. Pearls have become not only valuable but also affordable.

A good pearl designer always looks for people's interests. When they notice that more and more people start paying much attention to pearls, their inspiration can lead to varied creations. If you open a fashion magazine, you can easily find pearls on sexy models and fake or real pearls as small decorations on clothes, handbags, scarf or belts. Pearls have become a new fashion in modern times again.

The incredible variety of pearl colors, shapes, sizes, and types offer people to choose unique pearl jewelry. Currently there’s especially great interest in baroque pearls and the “new” pearl shapes such as petals, coins, and squares.

Pearl jewelry is a hot commodity in Hollywood these days.

Due to the high value of pearls, designers still use them mostly in jewelry, but the design has been changed so much from old days. Everyone knows a modern fashionable word "globalization". fashion is going global. Now pearls are also going “global”. Pearls are not by themselves any more, they are getting mixed with all other kinds of gemstones, metals, and any possible jewelry. The idea of this trend is not only for them to suit formal occasions, but also suit all kinds of circumstances, all ages, status, and classes. The prices of pearl jewelry also vary widely from a few dollars to more than thousands dollars according to the quality and design.

Pearl Jewelry has changed from a rare unaffordable treasure to a mainstream in fashion.

Bold jewelry is in fashion now

After several seasons of dangling delicate charms and chains from necks and wrists, women are making stronger statements through their jewelry, donning dramatic pieces that stand on their own.

For the longest time, "everything was so minimalist, it seemed almost vulgar to have stones," says Alison Burwell, jewelry news editor for W magazine. But the wispy layers of late "have given women the confidence to try bolder looks." Witness the red carpets recently: At this year's Oscars, stars such as Nicole Kidman strutted earring-free but with double bracelets, Wonder Woman-style.

Los Angeles-based jeweler Cathy Waterman, whose designs have graced Gwyneth Paltrow and Charlize Theron, has been adding attention-commanding cuffs, 3 and 4 inches wide, to her collection. "What you adorn yourself with is an expression of yourself," says Waterman, who finds that many of her clients are buying baubles for their own jewelry boxes. "And it's such a great sign that women are wanting pieces larger and more powerful, because it can only mean that we're feeling better about ourselves."

Also aiding the chunky choker trend: fashion's flirtation with "big, open spaces" across the chest, says Kim Renk, co-owner of New York-based costume jeweler Sequin. Think V-necks, scoop necks and cowl necks.

Considering their per piece impact, less is more for this trend, Burwell cautions: "You don't want to have so many statements that they start conflicting."

Precious Fashion: Jewellery collection today and forever

Undoubtedly, the cost of such beauty is high. However, when purchasing gold or silver ware from the last ultra-stylish collection, one may be sure to get a «friend» for ages. The jewellery world has its own view upon fashion. Neither diamonds, sapphires nor emeralds have time limits. The same with goods, made of these precious stones: they don’t ever wear out or go out of fashion, but just the reverse – become more unique, expensive each year and always maintain in requisition. At the same time even the most conservative jewellers from time to time phase in fresh ideas into their classic collections’ design. Our task is to catch them!

Let’s begin our review, certainly, with GOLD. Epidemic demand for White Gold, which was on its way for the last few years, is gradually diminishing. According to Baselworld’s – Watch and Jewellery Saloon – survey results, the most fashionable precious metal is Pink Gold. This Saloon holds its collections’ demonstrations in Switzerland annually in spring. And almost all Jewellery Brands presented their new Collections, which are carried out just in pink. But there’s no reason for conservatives’ agitation – both yellow and white gold are still in great demand. Keen on bright colors and anxious for something unusual ? Then Korloff offers unique technology especially for you: Varnishing Gold with specific colorful Lacquer. 14 colors, included in the collection, always allow you to select particularly your hue.

Leading positions among precious stones three centuries ago took Diamonds. And they still do! In addition to that their colored variations are back in fashion: yellow (Roberto Coin), blue and even black (such jewellery-houses as Iosi Scavia, Luca Carati, Stephan Haffner and de Grisogono use them in their production). Though the majority of customers continue to opt for classic, limpid stones.

As for combination of Diamonds with other Precious Stones, there is a wide range of variations. Most collections could be fairly called conservative, designed for luxurious evening dresses. And in this case, as far as jewelers are concerned, semiprecious stones are not appropriate and, certainly, are inferior to Diamonds and Sapphires. An unbelievable palette of hues was enabled in one of the last collections of Bvlgari High Jewellery: colors varied from blue with blueness, pink with gently-pink and green to yellow and purple. Yet in comparison with the previous collection – Allegra, where we have already seen such palette, but with the use of absolutely different stones (tourmalines, topazes, quartzes and amethysts), this presented collection is marked with colors combinations of only one precious stone – sapphire. At the Jewellery-house Korloff mostly «Royal» materials are used in making their works: designers insist, the design itself is so unique that there is no sense in making it cheaper by the utilization of semiprecious stones.

At the same time many brands, de Grisogono for instance, do not avoid and approve of semiprecious stones’ use and offer various combinations of turquoise, corrals with sapphires and diamonds. Pearls incrusted with diamonds have also reached fashionable pike. One may as well easily find stylish and not so glaringly luxurious furnishings: topaz, amethyst, tourmaline and aquamarine were also added to the list of the most present-day semiprecious stones.

Talking about shape, furnishings are mainly massive and large in size. As concerns Pendants, these are round and flat medallions, more than 2 inches in diameter with a huge stone mounting (Di Modolo Milano, Korloff). They perfectly decorate low-cut d̩collet̩ Рso fashionable this season.

A chain of footprints is a basic motive of the new Pasquale Bruni collection – Orme. It contains Rings and Pendants in the foot-shape. Magnificent diamonds light up cascades of blossomed out white flowers in Ghirlanda romantic furnishings of the same brand. Bvlgari also keeps up the flower theme in the collection Sapphire Flower, the main image of which is a flower with 5 sapphire petals and a small diamond in the middle.

Cartier in his works continues to develop animalistic trend in the jewellers’ art. Last year he brought to life the next series of his traditional panthers – La Panthere de Cartier. However, the most present-day furnishings are introduced in the shape of intricate twisted net – «lace» – where one with a touch of vivid imagination can see silhouettes of different animals and birds. (Tiffany & Co, Korloff).

In spite of fresh ideas and innovations, the jewellers’ art fashion is also shown in a wide variety of stones’ cuttings. All methods are far from being new; it is the fact, that just some of them were not used very often. One of the last Bvlgari collections – Rosette made of colored sapphires – received its name from the means of precious stones’ cuttings. Cutting in the shape of «rose» is one the most ancient methodics of stones’ cut. It allows collecting great number of stones into unlimited quantity of fanciful combinations and making unbelievable effect of kaleidoscope. Chopard introduced a very woman-like collection Copacabana, almost all the stones in which have the most present-day cutting «briolette». Korloff offers a unique cutting «Korloff cut» of 65 facets, for which he owns a patent. This method adds miraculous shine to diamonds, which are not very attractive stones in the first place: stones start to blaze thanks to gradual increase in facets’ size and reflection’s flatness.

On the whole, let alone total conservatism in the world of jewellers’ art, fashion offers us many furnishings’ variations this season. It is interesting, that nowadays’ trends repeat fashionable tendencies of the last century: same heavy brooches, pendants, necklaces, decorated with butterflies, dragonflies and flowers. In the long run it proves again, that jewellery is not going out of fashion!

Hot Trend in Fashion Jewelry

jewellery jewellery

Turquoise jewellery

Turquoise jewelry is making a comeback in all parts of the fashion world. Runway models sport the ancient stone especially as large chunky beads, earrings or large rings, everyday working women can be seen on subways and walking around town accessories with turquoise jewelry. Turquoise may have deep rooted history as an ancient spiritual stone, but it is hot and in fashion now.

If you are flipping through magazines looking for the latest celebrity fashion must haves, you will see all the stars wearing the Mystic Fire Topaz Ring and Toe Ring. Mystic fire topaz may look like a galactic ring from outer space but its rainbow kaleidoscope of colors is actually a neutral topaz stone that has been altered by a coloring process of metal coding with atoms. Pretty fascinating- as the stars will tell you, nothing like it exist in nature –and for some reason, not a lot in L.A. does either.

Silver Link Bracelet Jewellery
A Silver Link Bracelet is the piece to wear with just about everything. If you are looking for hot style and fashion, the silver link bracelet never goes out of style. Silver never goes out of fashion because it goes with everything and adds a little bit of shine as well.

The fashion jewelry trend sees a strong growth in colored Stone Jewelry Set in gold or silver to enhance every day wear to evening attire. Colored stone jewelry has a growing demand from tourmaline, yellow and purple sapphires to garnets. Peridot green and citrine remain ever popular to the fashion industry, as well as antique reproduction jewel

The Beauty of an Emerald Cut Engagement Ring

Diamonds come in several cuts and shapes. The most popular for engagement rings is the round brilliant while the princess cut is going through a burst of popularity too. For many, though, there is nothing that can compare to the beauty of an emerald cut engagement ring.
Emerald Cut Diamond Ring

The emerald cut is categorized as a stepped cut which means that the pavilion, the flat top and the cut sides down to the widest part of the cut, are cut in rectangular facets. This makes a larger flat area which highlights the clarity of the stone. For this reason, this cut is reserved for stones of the best clarity. The shape is rectangular, and for the classic emerald cut, the ratio of length to width is between 1.30 and 1.40 but you can choose a wider or narrower stone to accent the finger or setting better. The same cut in a square shape is called Asscher.

More Elegant Than Round

The emerald cut was developed to bring out the color and beauty of emeralds. Before long, people realized that other stones would also be enhanced by this type of cut. In the case of the diamond, the longer lines of the stone results in less fire than the round brilliant cut. It however, brings out more dramatic flashes of light. An emerald cut engagement ring may seem more elegant than the round cuts.

Because the stone itself is displayed without excess flair, it is important that the diamond for an emerald cut engagement ring be of the highest quality. Any flaws or inclusions will be more exposed and the flash is more dependent on the clarity of the stone than on the cuts. While many couples look for tradition at this special time, traditional cuts are more in demand and therefore, cost more.

Emerald Cut Platinum Engagement

An emerald cut engagement ring actually costs less than a ring with a diamond of the same size and quality cut in the round brilliant or princess cut. The emerald cut calls for a four prong setting is striking as a solitaire or flanked by smaller stones.

The Sexy Secret Of A Sapphire

Even gemstones have hidden secrets they don’t like being publicized much. You’d think that after centuries in the limelight, almost everything to know about these simple stones would be out there in the open, but that hasn’t been the case - until now.
Sapphires

Sapphires for example, have always liked to consider themselves the perfect blue gem. It’s about time though that they come out of the jewelry box and stand proud. Sapphires are not just blue.

Pink Sapphire

Much like the changing color of fall leaves, Sapphires sparkle in a palette of colors from blue to pink, yellow to green and all the colors in-between. There are even colorless Sapphires that appear almost identical to diamonds yet are much less expensive.

Gemstones in the Corundum Group

Sapphires and their estranged gem relatives are both members of gem family called Corundum. It’s not a family you’d want to mess with in a dark alley. Members of the Corundum group are known for their extraordinary hardness (9 on the Mohs scale). Indeed their hardness is exceeded only by that of the diamond - and the diamond is the hardest mineral on Earth. Thanks to that hardness, sapphires are easy to look after, requiring no more than the usual care on the part of the wearer.

For thousands of years, Sapphires were hunted far and wide as the ultimate blue gemstone. The ancient Persians believed that the earth rested on a giant sapphire that gave its blue reflection to the sky, hence the Latin name "sapphiru", which means blue.

The gem has long symbolized faith, remembrance, and enduring commitment. According to tradition, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments on tablets of sapphire, making it the most sacred stone. This supposed "divine favor" is why sapphires often were the gem of choice for kings and high priests throughout history. In fact, the British Crown Jewels contain a number of notable sapphires. Prince Charles even gave Princess Diana a sapphire engagement ring.

But back to Sapphire’s sexy secret. The only color that Sapphire doesn’t come in is red. There is a red member of that ultra-hard Corundum family. But it isn’t called a Sapphire. It prefers to go by the name ‘Ruby’.

What To Remember When Buying Gold Jewelry

Jewelry fashion is dynamic. Jewelers are always coming up with new designs and new materials from which jewelry can be fashioned. Even stunning pieces of jewelry may lose their popularity after a few years. Gold jewelry however is always in fashion. Jewelry collectors and even simple wearers like gold because it is beautiful and long lasting. Gold does not discolor because it almost never reacts with any other material. Rarely is someone allergic to gold so it always a good choice to go for gold.

When you are considering buying gold jewelry, you have to be familiar with the terminologies used. The purity of gold is measured in karats and the mark on the ring indicating this is a number followed by K (such as 24K, 18K, 12K). K stands for karat. 24K is pure gold. 18K is a mixture of 18 parts gold and 6 parts of a metal or a mixture of metals, making 18K 75% gold. 14K is 14 parts gold and 10 parts of a metal or a mixture of metals, making it 58.3% gold. The percentage of gold for 12K and 10K jewelries is also computed in the same way. In the United States, 10K is the minimum karat used in gold jewelries. Europe marks its gold jewelry differently. When the jewelry is 18K, it is marked 750 in Europe, indicating that it is 75% gold. 14K jewelry is marked 583 and 12K, 500, for 58.3% and 50% respectively.

Most gold jewelries should have a mark identifying its maker. This is really helpful when choosing your jewelry pieces. You might consider doing your research on gold jewelers before purchasing any jewelry. This way, you have a basic idea on jewelers that you prefer. If the piece you’re considering doesn’t have a trademark, it is better to look for another one.

Gold is not always alloyed with other metals. Sometimes it is just used as a coating for a base metal. Gold filled jewelries have a layer of karat gold wrapped around a base metal. The base metal used may vary. The gold content should be indicated on the piece such as 1/20 12K G.F. This indicates that the jewelry is 1/20th 12K gold by weight. Gold overlay and rolled gold plate are also terms used to indicate that a layer of gold (a minimum of 10 karats) is electronically bonded to a base metal. Abbreviations such as 12K Gold Overlay or 14K RGP indicates the percentage of gold used and the process of binding the gold to the metal. Gold plated jewelries are also available and the coating is usually thinner than in gold – filled jewelries so they easily fade.

When buying gold jewelry choose solid gold (even alloys are called solid gold) when you intend to wear it frequently. Gold-filled and gold-plated jewelries should be considered when they are only to be worn occasionally.

Costume Jewelry can make your fashion statement

Costume jewelry ( also called fashion jewelry, junk jewelry or fake jewelry ) is jewelry that is made of less precious materials, including glass, plastic, and synthetic stones, in place of more expensive materials such as precious metals and gems.

Beaded Costume Necklace
Beaded costume jewelry is a fun and funky way to express yourself. Today costume jewelry is often perceived as what one wears when one can't afford the real thing. Some wholesale costume jewelry is just for fun and very fleeting. Nowadays, costume jewelry is considered as jewelry articles to wear with specific type of clothing to improve the appearance and personality levels. Costume jewelry is a term that has been derived from the fact of its being a part of theatrical devices. What's great with costume jewelry is you can use it, get tired of it, put it away or give it away and have still gotten good value for your money.

Vintage French Costume Jewelry

Vintage costume jewelry frequently mimicked fine jewelry designs and, if made by skilled craftsmen, was thought to be "real" at first glance. Some jewelry is unsigned and some is by well known vintage costume jewelry designers or companies. Necklaces are also going large thanks to this vintage costume jewelry trend. Most of vintage jewelry can also be called costume jewelry. Consider vintage costume jewelry when you want to make a strong statement for a special event.

Costume designer jewelry gives you the lavish feel and delicate twinkle that just doesn’t appear with cheaper types of costume jewelry. Great designers create vintage costume jewelry that can be worn by fashion-forward women of every age.

Jewelry that is brass plated, as most costume jewelry is, can cause an allergic reaction or infection. For those who aren't afraid to be noticed or those that like ''conversation starters'', vintage costume jewelry is a great starting point. Even some costume jewelry is quite beautiful and far less expensive than "the real thing. When you own costume jewelry is fantastic, but when you own a piece by an artisan who puts their soul and heart into the pieces that they make it is even better. Costume jewelry is considered a fashion accessory and is directly affected by the change in fashion. Now inexpensive and costume jewelry is also considered as fine jewelry which are available in bargain price too. Most of the costume jewelry of today mimics the jewelry of the 30,40 and 50s. Many teenagers are starting to wear costume jewelry because they feel it makes them look hip and in style and it is affordable.

Coral Jewelry
Coral Jewelry

Coral is the skeletal remains of a marine animal, the polyp corallicum, and is mainly composed of calcium carbonate. The most valuable type of coral is the noble red, Corallicum rubrum. Since Corals are calcified skeletons of sea creatures, they grow in formations resembling the branches of a tree. Most coral used for jewelry comes from the Mediterranean Sea or from the Pacific Ocean near Japan and Taiwan. Precious gem corals are formed deep undersea. A distinctive feature of the precious corals is that they take a perfect polish. In their natural state, corals have a tree-like appearance, which allows the maximum number of polyps to be fed by nutrients in the water surrounding the colony.

Coral in the form of coral stone and gold jewelry is among the most ancient of gem materials. Coral inlays and coral jewelry have been found from the Iron Age. Coral has a history of religious significance.
